Berlin Marathon hotels33rd Berlin Marathon

September 23rd / 24th

The 33rd real,- BERLIN-MARATHON will boost a field of more than 40,000 athletes from over 100 nations on 24th September. Start and finishing areas are located in the heart of the capital next to Germany’s most famous landmark: the Brandenburg Gate. Reichstag and Siegessäule are nearby as well. Running through Brandenburg Gate just before the finish is a very emotional moment. More than a million spectators will cheer you on along the course. Live music is played at at least 60 locations and at all the famous landmarks, which are passed by the runners. The course of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON is renowned. It is flat and fast. You will find ideal conditions to break your personal best. Five world records are proof of that. It was in 2003 when Kenya’s Paul Tergat broke the world record, which still stands at 2:04:55.

Berlin in a Nutshell

Germany’s capital city is now cutting-edge, having reinvented itself since unification as one of Europe’s primary cities. It combines art, culture, museums, theatres, entertainment and nightlife in such a way that it has become one of the liveliest and most diverse cities in the world.

Despite its modern edge, the city has managed to retain its rich history, which is evident in its magnificent architecture and monuments, such as the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. There is also evidence of the city’s troubled past in Cold War remnants such as the remains of the Berlin Wall, which divided the city until 1989.

As well as the famous tourist attractions such as the Kurfürstendamm in west Berlin or the Alexanderplatz and the Fernsehturm TV tower in the east (which helpfully acts as a beacon so you can get your bearings), there are many vibrant districts in the city, each with their own unique characters. Amazingly, one third of Berlin is still covered by woodland, parks, meadows and waterways.

Berlin’s sheer size means that it is a city too large to be explored on foot, but its modern public transport system makes it very much accessible. The city consists of 23 boroughs, arguably the most interesting of which are Charlottenburg in the west, Tiergarten and Kreuzberg in the downtown western area, the historic eastern part in Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg in the north-east. South-west Berlin features lovely parks, secluded forests and lakes in the Grunewald area.

The contrast between the two main parts of Berlin is still in evidence, though east and west are gradually coming together to create an even more interesting and vibrant city.
